Question
I have crabgrass mixed in heavily in my St Augustine lawn. Is the Drive 75 product good for killing the crabgrass without killing my St Augustine? Is it safe to apply to my entire yard and how is the product applied and is it to be mixed with anything when applying. I should also let you know that the there are 2 types of St Augustine grass in my yard. One is called Floritam and the other is called Palmetto.
Thanks so much for a quick response.

Answer
Everyone has questions. And BASF Professional Turf has answers.
By Kathie Kalmowitz, Technical Specialist for the BASF Turf & OrnamentaKevin:
Please do not purchase the Drive product for control of crabgrass in your St. Augustinegrass yard. It does not make any difference what cultivar of St. Augustinegrass, Drive DF or Drive XLR8 will cause major plant injury to this turfgrass type.
For a postemergence product you have very few choices on the market for a homeowner. The Image consumer concentrate does have crabgrass activity but you might have to spray it more than once for control- if you do that you should space the reapplication to 21-day so you do not yellow your turfgrass.
If you have a professional lawn company they might use a product called MSMA. I do not think a home owner can get this but you might want to check the box stores and read the labels.
St. Augustinegrass is a type that is known to be chemical sensitive to several products - therefore not as many options are available to you.
Good luck.
Kathie
