Dayflower is a freely branched and mat-spreading annual. The leaves are lanced shaped and broad on smooth stems. The species reproduces by seed or stem fragments that root. Solitary three petal blue flowers form in the leaf-like structures. The plant can be confused with doveweed, which is in the same plant family Commelinaceae.
